40 Years of Invention and Innovation
2008 is a significant year in the history of Aladdin Temp-Rite. It was in 1968 when what is now known as Aladdin Temp-Rite was started as a separate business unit of the iconic consumer products company Aladdin Industries. Aladdin Industries was founded in 1908 as a kerosene mantle lamp company and subsequent products such as lunch boxes and thermos bottles have made it a nostalgic staple in the pantheon of baby boomers “comfort products.” I carried Hopalong Cassidy with me to school, what about you?
In 1968, the product invention that put Aladdin Temp-Rite on the map was the insulated tray. This patented product first gained market acceptance with airlines (remember when we were fed on planes?) and then in hospitals and other institutions.
The pattern for invention and innovation was set as were several of the tenets that drive our business model even today.
- Stay close to the customer to better meet and anticipate needs
- Obsolete yourself or someone else will do the job for you
- Provide excellence in products and services.
These imperatives are not the slogans of the moment; they are the DNA of Aladdin Temp-Rite. They are what drive the business model of selling direct, competing through innovation while constantly improving.
Yes, we have excellent products and services; but the real difference that Aladdin Temp-Rite has is people …how many companies can boast of one third of its employees with tenure of over 25 years, or over half for 10 years or more??? This is the Aladdin difference, people who know that the right thing to do for the customer is the right thing. It is what motivates us and why people stay at Aladdin Temp-Rite. It is this penchant for improvement and a dissatisfaction with the way things are that has sustained Aladdin Temp-Rite for 40 years and will for 40 more as long as we are…better by degrees.
